Islamabad start the defence of their title with the opening match of the season against last season’s second-last-placed side, the Lahore Qalandars. With the addition of T20 maestro Rassie van der Dussen to the Islamabad side I can’t imagine any other result than a big win for the defending champs.

The Qalandars came fourth in the Global Super League played in December, finishing fourth out of five teams with two wins and two losses, the most recent being against the Rangpur Riders.
The Riders were on 85/1 off nine overs when rain cut into the match, reducing it to a nine-over affair. Salman Mirza (1/26) the only bowler to taste success.
The DLS calculation set the Qalandars a target of 111 off nine overs. After falling to 14/4 in the third over, Mirza Baig (31 off 20 balls) and Tom Abell (25 off 12) gave them some hope, but the lower middle-order couldn’t maintain the rate, ending on 87/7 off nine overs to lose by 23 runs.
