Sussex vs Somerset Predictions
Sussex and Somerset have each won both of their matches in this season’s Vitality Blast, but I’m backing Somerset for the win as their batters are in better form.
- Somerset’s Will Smeed has scored 40, 28, 35 & 81* in his last 5 innings.
- Somerset’s Tom Lammonby has scored 60, 104* & 36 in his last 4 innings.
- Sussex’s James Coles scored 23, 77* & 43 runs in his last three innings.
- Sussex’s Tom Alsop scored 58 off 35 balls against Gloucestershire.
Head-to-Head
Somerset have won two and lost two of their last five matches against Sussex. The other match was rained-off.
Sussex Form
Sussex made it two wins from their first two matches of the Vitality Blast season when they beat Gloucestershire by 80 runs.
Sussex recovered from 43/3 thanks to a 105-run stand between James Coles (43 off 27 balls) and Tom Alsop (58 off 35 balls). The rest of the order failed to fire and Sussex were bowled out for 173 off the last ball of their 20 overs.
Gloucestershire were rolled for 93 off 13.3 overs, with Tymal Mills (3/13, econ 5.20) returning the best figures for Sussex.
Sussex Team News
Australian seamer Gurinder Sandhu will offer his skipper an extra bowling option.
Somerset Form
Somerset improved on their season-opening five-wicket win over Surrey by crushing Essex by eight wickets.
Essex struggled to come to grips with the Somerset bowlers and were bowled out for 148 with five balls of their 20 overs to spare. Ben Green (3/30) was the most successful of the Somerset bowlers.
Will Smeed (81* off 54 balls) and Tom Lammonby (36 off 22) got the innings off to a flying start, adding 96 for the first wickets off nine overs. They hit their target with 4.1 overs in hand and eight wickets in the bank.
Somerset Team News
Somerset will be without Tom Banton (on England duty), Sean Dickson (injured hand) and James Rew (on England Lions duty).
Verdict
I am backing Somerset to win. I am also backing Will Smeed to top score for Somerset.
James Coles is a good bet to top score for Sussex.
