New Zealand vs Bangladesh Preview & Tips

New Zealand have won eight of their last 11 Test matches and generally dominant at home. The hosts are huge favourites so the value is in the run scoring markets. My best bet is for Tom Latham to score 50+ runs in the first innings.

  • Bangladesh have lost 11 of their last 14 Test matches.

Head to Head

New Zealand have won their last four Test matches against Bangladesh. When they last met in 2019, the Black Caps won by an innings and 12 runs.

New Zealand Form

New Zealand have been in superb form in Test cricket with just one defeat in their last 11 Test matches. That loss came in their last match when India beat them by 372 runs in Mumbai.

Not many teams go to India and get results so that won’t bother the New Zealand side too much. Prior to that the Black Caps beat England away and also won the World Test Championship final against India in Southampton.

As the ICC Test Championship holders, New Zealand will be keen to get the new season off to a good start as they look to defend the title.

New Zealand Team News

Ross Taylor will play in his final Test series for New Zealand. He has announced his retirement from the international game once this series is complete.

Kane Williamson is unavailable for this series due to an elbow injury. The squad will be captained by opening batsman, Tom Latham.

Bangladesh Form

Bangladesh only have two victories in their last 14 Test matches, both of which came against Zimbabwe. Their most recent series at home to Pakistan ended 2-0 in the visitors favour.

At home Bangladesh are normally competitive, and a few years ago even dominated. But on the road they have consistently struggled, particularly when outside of the sub-continent.

New Zealand perhaps offers the most difficult conditions to the Tigers. The pitches will be seam friendly, something the Bangladesh seldom face.

Bangladesh Team News

Bangladesh have a few new faces to their side but some of the experienced players are still around. Mominul Haque will lead the side that will contain Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan.

There will be a lot of reliance on the bowlers who are capable of doing the business in New Zealand. The biggest questions surround whether their batsmen can post the runs required to be competitive.

Verdict

Tom Latham is backed to score 50+ in the first innings and be New Zealand's top run scorer.

For Bangladesh, the value is on Liton Das who was in fabulous form in his last series, despite the teams poor performances.
