Lions vs Griquas Preview & Tips - Value on Lions in the handicap market

The Lions were very good in their last Currie Cup match after a poor start. They have not played much over the last two weeks but should have the quality to cover the -8 handicap.

The Lions have won their last seven matches against Griquas. Their last match took place in the 2020 Currie Cup season where the Lions were convincing winners.

The Lions find themselves sixth on the Currie Cup table but have only played two games thus far. Of those two they have won one and lost one.

They have also played against the British & Irish Lions, a match in which they will well beaten 56-14 at Emirates Airline Park.

It was a poor start to the Currie Cup as they Lions went down 39-10 to the Pumas in Nelspruit. They did bounce back well to beat Western Province 38-32.

Since then there have been a number of issues, including COVID-19 and security concerns. The games missed will be caught up at a later stage.

Ivan van Rooyen is missing a few players to the national side but the rest of the squad is fit and healthy. There might be some COVID testing before the teams are confirmed.

Griquas are third on the table with two wins from their opening four matches. It is not a position Griquas often find themselves but with the big unions missing international players, this is an opportunity to push for the title.

On the opening weekend Griquas lost 30-16 at home to the Sharks before they beat a weakened Cheetahs outfit 31-10 in Kimberley.

Griquas narrowly lost 26-22 to the Pumas thereafter. In their last match the men from Kimberley made a superb comeback to beat Western Province 30-28 at the Cape Town Stadium.

Griquas have had a couple of weeks off to nurse any injuries. They should be at full strength for this encounter.
