Dragons vs Stormers Predictions

The Stormers are not playing their best rugby this season but should still have enough to get the win in Wales. Given the hosts form, I am backing the Cape Town side to cover the -14 handicap.

Last season the Stormers beat the Dragons 34-26 on home soil.

The Dragons are second from bottom in the URC with 16 points. They have managed just three victories in their 15 games, but it wasn’t totally unexpected at the start of the season.

At the end of March, the Dragons did manage to beat Zebre 20-13 at home which ensured they moved off the bottom of the table. Since that win they have lost 36-19 at Benetton and 34-27 at home to Connacht a fortnight ago.

The Dragons have remained competitive in many games this season, but they just don’t have the quality to push teams the full 80 minutes. They are however a plucky side to play at home.

The Dragons have only pride left to play for. I do not expect too many changes from their last lineup.

Stormers Form

The Stormers are up into fifth place on the URC table, but they have their work cut out if they hope to make it to their third straight final. They are on 45 points, six off the Bulls just above them on the table.

Victory at Rodney Parade is a non-negotiable for the Stormers, they need the points to keep in touch as the season starts winding towards a close. The Cape side will still be ruing their 27-21 defeat in April at home to Ospreys, a game they really should have won.

They did bounce back in their last game, beating a weakened Leinster side 42-12 at the Cape Town Stadium.

The Stormers are on a two-week trip in Europe with Connacht to come next weekend. They will rotate their squad over the two games, but this is a game they cannot afford to lose.
