The Stormers are in confident mood and welcome back some big players this weekend. The Dragons are having a decent season, but their threat is mostly on home soil. I am backing the Stormers to win by more than 23 points.

The defending champions have made a fine start to their season with five wins, a draw and a defeat in their opening seven matches. They are currently fourth on the table on 29 points, level with the Bulls but with a game in hand.

The Cape Town-based outfit has only lost to Cardiff away this season while they also drew 16-all against the Ospreys. Both results were disappointing as they expected to take those points.

Before the international break the Stormers beat the Lions 31-22 away and upon their return, destroyed the Scarlets 36-19 at home last weekend. It was a very dominant display from a side that were missing plenty of international players.

In fact, the Stormers did not have a single player in their starting line-up that featured in the final last season.

The youngsters performed well last weekend, but John Dobson will almost surely bring some of his top players back this weekend. Perhaps just from the bench but changes are expected.

Dragons Form

The Dragons are 11th on the table with three wins from their eight matches to date. While that may not sound great, they are far better than they have been in recent seasons.

Newport have won two of their last three matches but both of those were at home. They beat Ospreys 32-25 at home before thrashing Zebre 47-7.

Last weekend the Dragons went down 33-25 to the Lions in Johannesburg. The quality of the game was poor as both sides struggled to put anything coherent together but the Dragons won’t be too dissatisfied.
