Australia vs France Preview & Tips
France will be confident heading into the deciding Test. They have been superb in the first two and are backed to win the third Test against the Aussies.
- Australia have won 2 of their last 9 matches.
- Australia have failed to cover the -5 handicap in their last 11 matches against top tier opposition.
- France won the 2nd Test 28-26.
- France have won 9 of their last 14 matches.
Head to Head
Australia have won 10 of their last 13 matches against France. Australia narrowly escaped the first Test with a win but they couldn’t manage it in the second Test as France won 28-26 in Melbourne.
Australia Form
Australia are under pressure early in the season with the series level at 1-1 heading into the decider. The hosts were expected to perform far better after the French decided to rest many of their key players for this tour.
The Wallabies were first to admit that they got extremely fortunate in the first Test. France had the game in the bag but a huge error after the hooter allowed Australia to score and win 23-21.
The second Test in Melbourne followed a similar pattern to the first Test. France dominated early on before Australia clawed their way back into it. Over the 80 minutes France deserved the win though and they secured it (28-26) with a late penalty.
Australia Team News
Head coach Dave Rennie has run out of patience and rung the changes for the third and final Test.
Many have called for Tate McDermott to start at scrumhalf and this week he will. There are six further changes to the side.
Lachie Swinton also gets a start as does Isi Naisarani, Allan Alaalatoa and the superb Darcy Swain.
France Form
France have been extremely impressive in the first two Test matches in Australia. Having not won in Australia since 1990, the odds were stacked in the hosts favour especially after the French arrived with a weakened squad.
The first Test at the Suncorp Stadium saw Australia win 23-21. It was however France who looked certain winners with the time up on the clock. They however failed to find touch with the final kick and the Wallabies took full advantage.
In the second Test it was Melvyn Jaminet who converted a late penalty to down Australia. They again dominated much of the match, especially on the physical front. The 28-26 win gives France a chance of an unlikely series win.
France Team News
Fabian Galthie has shuffled his pack again for the third Test. Props Sipili Falatea and Enzo Forletta both return to the starting lineup.
There is also a return for lock Romain Taofifenua and flank Dylan Cretin.
In the backline, experienced winger Teddy Thomas makes his first appearance of the tour. Antoine Hastoy starts at flyhalf and Pierre-Louis Barassie at centre.
