Australia women cruised past Samoa last weekend while the USA struggled in a heavy defeat to England. The last two games between these sides have, however, been decided by seven and eight points. I’m backing the USA to get within 12.5.

The USA are former world champions, but their women’s game has dropped off since the early 90s. They are now treading water to make the second round with this being a must-win game.

Coming into the tournament, the USA lost to Canada, Australia and New Zealand. While the latter was a heavy defeat, Australia and Canada won by eight and 12 points respectively.

The United States ladies put up a good fight in the first half last weekend in their World Cup opener against England, but the hosts ran away with it in the second half. England won the game 69-7.

I expect a few changes to the USA side but given that this is a must-win for them, they won’t make wholesale changes.

Australia Women Form

Australia Women lost to New Zealand and Canada ahead of the World Cup while they bet the USA 27-19.

The Wallaroos were too good against Samoa in their World Cup opener, running in a 79-0 victory. That will give them confidence, as well as the fact that they beat the USA recently.

Australia Women Team News

Australia got a good win last week, but this is the crucial game for them. It will decide who progresses alongside England in the group. They will be at full strength.
