English Championship Predictions - 21 February, Matchday 33

Millwall vs Portsmouth

Millwall have leaders Coventry in their sights, needing two wins to catch them up in their remaining 16 games. Portsmouth are just four points off the drop zone, so this is shaping up nicely to be feisty.

Portsmouth have lost six and drawn two of their last 10 games on the road, so they should be easy pickings for Millwall. The home side have won eight of their last 12 home games, suffering just one loss.

Portsmouth have failed to score in five of those 10 away games, and have scored more than one goal only twice in those two games, so I’m backing a Millwall win with Portsmouth to score as they have nothing to lose and will throw everything at their hosts.

Swansea vs Bristol City

Both sides have similar form in their last handful of matches, but Swansea are strong at home. The Welsh lads have won seven and drawn one of their last eight matches at home in the Championship, scoring 13 goals.

Bristol have won just three of their last 10 Championship matches on the road, losing five. They’ve failed to score in four of those matches and have scored more than one goal just twice in that stretch. Swansea have scored two or more goals in five of those eight home matches, including seven in their last two.

Wrexham vs Ipswich

Wrexham are one point off the playoffs purely on goal difference, while Ipswich are six points above them in fourth spot and with half an eye on the title, as they sit just six points behind Coventry.

After a five-match winning streak Ipswich have struggled through two defeats, a draw and a win in their last four games. Wrexham have three wins in their last five games, but neither side has been scoring freely. At home Wrexham have just one point in their last three Championship games, while Ipswich have lost two of their last three on the road.

Neither side wants a draw, but my guess is that’s what they’re going to end up with, and potentially a low-scoring draw as well.

Southampton vs Charlton

The Saints have won their last four matches on the bounce, stretching that to five wins and a draw in their last six. Charlton have just three wins in 10 matches, losing four of those games.

At home Southampton have lost just one of their last 10 matches, winning seven. Charlton won their last game on the road 2-0 on the back of a run of six defeats sprinkled with three draws in their previous nine matches. A sure-fire win for the Saints, but Charlton are likely to score as they’ve been finding the back of the net despite their poor run of form.

Verdict

Millwall to take three points off Portsmouth, Swansea to batter poor-travellers Bristol.

Not many goals going around as Wrexham and Ipswich play out a stalemate, Southampton to brush Charlton aside at home.
