Liverpool vs Real Madrid Predictions

Real Madrid cruised in the first leg to a 3-1 win and then made it six victories in a row with El Clasico success over Barcelona on Saturday night. Los Blancos are full of confidence and are value to extend a 13-game unbeaten run at Anfield. Despite not needing a victory to progress in the UEFA Champions League, they can inflict another home loss on Liverpool. Double chance is the best bet for this one.

  • Liverpool have won 2 of their last 10 home matches (all competitions).
  • Real Madrid have won their last 4 matches against Liverpool (UEFA Champions League).

Head to Head

Real Madrid have won the last four matches against Liverpool, including the first leg of this quarter-final last week in Spain.

Junior Vinicius and Marco Asensio scored first half goals. The former then got his second of the game after Mo Salah had given Liverpool an away goal.

The previous meeting between the sides had come in the 2018 UEFA Champions League Final which Real also won 3-1.

Real Madrid were 3-0 and 1-0 winners over Liverpool in the group stages of the Champions League in 2014.

Liverpool Form

Liverpool have got a mountain to climb after a 3-1 defeat in the first leg. It was a result that halted a three-game winning run for the Reds.

Liverpool were 2-0 down after 36 minutes in Madrid after defensive lapses. Mo Salah reduced the deficit, but Junior Vinicius sealed the win with his second of the game.

Jurgen Klopp's side lost six straight home games before beating RB Leipzig 2-0 at Anfield to qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals.

Away wins of Wolves 1-0 and Arsenal 3-0 were followed by the defeat in Madrid. Liverpool then made it back-to-back home wins with a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday, although they needed a 91st minute winner from Trent-Alexander Arnold.

Liverpool Team News

Defenders Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip and captain Jordan Henderson remain long-term absentees for Liverpool.

Reserve goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, midfielder Curtis Jones and forward Divock Origi are also set to miss the second leg.

Real Madrid Form

Real Madrid enjoyed a huge week with the 3-1 first leg win over Liverpool followed by a 2-1 victory against rivals Barcelona in El Clasico on Saturday.

Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos scored in first half of El Clasico to help Real Madrid move to within a point of La Liga leader Atletico Madrid.

It was a sixth straight win for Los Blancos and a 13th game unbeaten. Real last lost a game at the end of January when going down 2-1 at home to Levante.

Since then, Zinedine Zidane's side have won 11 times and drawn twice in their 13-game unbeaten run.

Real Madrid Team News

Real Madrid will travel without first-choice centre-backs, the injured Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane, who tested positive for Covid-19.

Right back Dani Carvajal, midfielder Federico Valverde and forward Eden Hazard are also unavailable for Zinedine Zidane's side.

Verdict

With a healthy two-goal advantage, Real Madrid don't need to push for a victory. But I'm backing them to complete the job with a win at Anfield. Real Madrid double chance is the value, especially as Los Blancos are on a long unbeaten run.
