Struggling Giants unlikely to Reach Quarters
Joburg Giants’ quarterfinal hopes have been reduced to a minimum after starting BAL 2026 with back-to-back defeats in front of the home crowd.
They were demolished in the opening round by Tanzanian champions Dar City, losing 100-70, hitting just 4 of 24 three-point attempts, missing 9 of 19 free throws, and committing 22 turnovers.
Joburg looked far more competitive in their second game, entering the final quarter level with Nairobi City Thunder, but still lost 71-65, once again struggling from beyond the arc (3/13).
Tigers in Top Form at BAL 2026
RSSB Tigers have been one of the biggest surprises at BAL 2026 so far, sharing top spot in the Kalahari Conference with Dar City after two wins from two games.
The Rwandan champions opened their campaign with a strong offensive display in a 103-95 win over Al Ahly Benghazi, with US duo Leonard Randall (37 points) and Teafale Lenard Jr (27 points) leading the way.
They followed that up with a major upset, defeating last year’s finalists Petro 82-78, with Lenard starring again with 26 points, while Mangok Mathiang added a double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds).
Verdict
Tigers are backed to cover the -10.5 handicap.
