Petro ended the 2025 Bal as runners-up but this year they have been inconsistent. They remain capable of recovering though with a quarter-final still looming.

Petro haven’t impressed much at BAL 2026 so far but remain a strong quarterfinal candidate, currently sitting 3rd in the Kalahari Conference with one win and one loss.

They opened with a convincing 104-90 victory against Al Ahly Benghazi, in what was expected to be a tight contest. Their shot selection was excellent, hitting 42 of 67 field goal attempts, with Childe Dundao dominating with 27 points.

However, the Angolan champions failed to justify their favorite status against RSBB Tigers last weekend, losing 82-78 with just 36% shooting from the field and missing 9 of 32 free throws.

Nairobi City Struggling but Capable

Like their opponents, Nairobi City Thunder also sit in the BAL playoff zone with a 1-1 record.

They nearly pulled off an upset against Dar City in the opening round, holding a four-point lead at half-time before falling 90-85. Eugene Adera delivered a strong performance despite the loss, recording 16 points and 13 rebounds.

The Kenyan champions bounced back on Sunday, defeating tournament hosts Joburg Giants 71-65, even though they scored just 28 points in the second half.
