A good mix of promising rookies and season professionals head to the Dominican Republic for the latest round on the PGA Tour. Who will lift the trophy come Sunday?

Matt Wallace will not be back to defend his title after a one-stroke victory over Nicolai Hojgaard in 2023.

Past major winners in the field include Francesco Molinari, Jimmy Walker, and Jason Dufner. Also competing are previous champions of this tournament, Chad Ramey and Joel Dahmen.

These are our four picks that could win the title this weekend.

Alex Noren

Alex Noren had a decent start to his PGA Tour season, finishing T42 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, T25 at the American Express, T26 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and T53 at the WM Phoenix Open.

Noren rediscovered his touch after those results, placing T9 at the Cognizant Classic, T19 at the Players Championship, T11 at the Texas Children's Houston Open, and T14 at the Valero Texas Open.

The Swede is debuting at the Corales Puntacana Championship this weekend.

Noren has produced consistent performances lately and has claims for the title in the Dominican Republic this weekend.

Nicolai Hojgaard

Nicolai Hojgaard was in great touch on the DP World Tour and PGA Tour at the beginning of the year, placing T25 at the Dubai Invitational, T7 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, 2nd at the Farmers Insurance Open, T31 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, T39 at the Genesis Invitational and T52 at the Mexico Open.

However, Hojgaard missed the cut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship and finished T75 at the Valero Texas Open in his following three events before showing signs of returning to form by placing T16 at the Masters last weekend.

The 22-year-old Dane missed the cut at the Puntanca Resort and Club in 2022 but placed an excellent second in 2023.

Nicolai Hojgaard appears to have turned the corner after some solid golf at Augusta National and can take home the winner's cheque at the Corales Puntacana Championship.

Billy Horschel

Billy Horschel struggled with his game at the start of the 2024 PGA Tour season, with results of T18 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, MC at the American Express, MC at the Farmers Insurance Open and T41 at the WM Phoenix Open.

Horschel shrugged off those performances in his subsequent five events, placing T9 at the Cognizant Classic, MC at the Players Championship, T12 at the Valspar Championship, and T7 at the Texas Children's Houston Open before missing the cut at the Valero Texas Open.

The 37-year-old American is making his debut at the Corales Puntacana Championship.

Horschel has been in better shape lately and can add another PGA Tour trophy to his cabinet if he can replicate his recent results.

Victor Perez

Victor Perez was out of sorts at the start of his debut season on the PGA Tour, missing the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open and WM Phoenix Open before finishing T52 at the Mexico Open.

Perez found some form on the golf course after those results, placing T16 at the Cognizant Classic, T3 at the Puerto Rico Open, MC at the Valspar Championship, T17 at the Texas Children's Houston Open, and T45 at the Valero Texas Open.

The 31-year-old Frenchman missed the cut at the 2022 Corales Puntacana Championship on debut.

Perez has posted solid results in recent months and could upstage the others at the Puntacana Resort and Club this weekend.

Verdict

Noren has been playing well lately and can lift his maiden PGA Tour trophy come Sunday.

Nicolai Hojgaard will look to go one better and win the Corales Puntacana Championship this weekend.

Horschel has been thereabouts and has the form to emerge as the winner at the Puntacana Resort and Club.

Perez has been in solid touch and should enter calculations in the Dominican Republic this weekend.
