The PGA Tour returns to South Carolina for the second time this season, where a mix of season professionals and up-and-coming rookies will compete for the inaugural Myrtle Beach Classic at the Dunes Golf Club. Who will lift the trophy come Sunday?

The Dunes Golf Club hosted the season-ending PGA Tour Champions Charles Schwab Cup Championship from 1994 to 1999.

Thirty-seven previous winners on the PGA Tour will tee off on Thursday, including Daniel Berger, Bill Haas, Brandt Snedeker, Erik van Rooyen, Kevin Kisner, and Ryan Moore.

These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.

Erik van Rooyen

Erik van Rooyen produced consistent results on the PGA Tour at the beginning of the season, finishing T22 at the Sentry, T52 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, T25 at the American Express, T22 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and MC at the WM Phoenix Open.

Van Rooyen kicked on from those performances, placing T8 at the Mexico Open, T2 at the Cognizant Classic, and T25 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

However, Van Rooyen's subsequent four events have been below par, with results of MC at the Players Championship, MC at the Valero Texas Open, T55 at the Masters, and T33 at the RBC Heritage.

Van Rooyen will have a chance to take home the winner's cheque if he can rediscover his form from earlier in the year.

Davis Thompson

Davis Thompson had a solid opening few tournaments on the PGA Tour at the start of the year, placing T57 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, T21 at the American Express, MC at the Farmers Insurance Open, T15 at the WM Phoenix Open, and T24 at the Mexico Open.

Thompson could not maintain his level of play after those results, finishing T47 at the Cognizant Classic, MC at the Players Championship and MC at the Valspar Championship before regaining his touch.

He placed T21 at the Texas Children's Houston Open, T45 at the Valero Texas Open, T18 at the Corales Puntacana Championship, T23 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and MC at the recent CJ CUP Byron Nelson.

Thompson has been thereabouts lately and offers excellent value at the Myrtle Beach Classic.

Andrew Novak

Andrew Novak was out-of-sorts in January this year, missing the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii, the American Express, and the Farmers Insurance Open before finding form on the golf course, placing T8 at the WM Phoenix Open, T8 at the Mexico Open and T9 at the Cognizant Classic.

Novak's subsequent six tournaments starts have been inconsistent, with results of MC at the Players Championship, T17 at the Valspar Championship, T53 at the Texas Children's Houston Open, T58 at the Valero Texas Open, T23 at the  Zurich Classic of New Orleans, and T30 at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson last weekend.

Novak had multiple top-ten places a few months back and should enter calculations in South Carolina this weekend.

Verdict

Van Rooyen has not been at his best lately but was playing well before his latest results and can win another PGA Tour title come Sunday.

Thompson has been in decent nick and could make the frame in South Carolina this weekend.

Novak will have a chance to emerge as the winner at the Dunes Golf Club if he can replicate his performances from earlier in the year.
