The players are back in sunny South Africa for the second edition of the SDC Championship. Who will emerge as the winner of this co-sanctioned DP World Tour and Sunshine Tour event?
Matthew Baldwin returns to St Francis Links to defend his title after a seven-stroke victory over Adri Arnaus in 2023.
Legend of the game Jack Nicklaus designed the St.Francis Links, which has consistently secured a place among the top ten golf courses in South Africa.
These are our top four selections that could win the title this weekend.
Zander Lombard
Zander Lombard found form on the golf course towards the end of last year, finishing T22 at the DP World Tour Championship, T4 at the Joburg Open, T12 at the Investec South African Open Championship and T25 at the Alfred Dunhill Champion.
Lombard has maintained his level of play since those results, placing T6 at the Dubai Invitational, T16 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, T13 at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship, T2 at the Bahrain Championship, T16 at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters and T6 at the Dimension Data Pro-Am (Challenge Tour).
The South African golfer finished T41 at the 2023 SDC Championship on debut.
Lombard has been in superb touch on the DP World Tour and has claims for the title in St. Francis Bay.
Tom McKibbin
Tom McKibbin had a slow start to his new season on the DP World Tour, finishing T67 at the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship and T51 at the ISPS Handa Australian Open before finding consistency in his game.
McKibbin placed T25 at the Dubai Invitational, T14 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, T16 at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship and 4th at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters in his subsequent four tournaments.
The 21-year-old finished T18 at the 2023 SDC Championship on debut.
McKibbin will have a chance to win his second DP World Tour title after his recent performances.
Antione Rozner
Antione Rozner was in decent touch on the DP World Tour towards the end of last year, finishing T11 at the DP World Tour Championship, T15 at the Alfred Dunhill Champion and T29 at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.
Rozner has maintained his form into 2024, finishing T32 at the Dubai Invitational, T16 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, T12 at the Bahrain Championship and T6 at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.
The 31-year-old Frenchman had an excellent debut at the 2023 SDC Championship, finishing T3 overall.
Rozner has been in better shape lately and can win another DP World Tour title on the St. Francis Links this weekend.
Connor Syme
Connor Syme had an excellent start to his new season on the DP World Tour, placing T13 at the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship and T17 at the ISPS Handa Australian Open.
Syme produced fair results after those performances in Australia, finishing T40 at the Dubai Invitational, T51 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, T34 at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship, and T35 at the Bahrain Championship before bouncing back to form by placing T7 at the Magical Kenya Open last weekend.
The Scotsman finished T14 at the 2023 SDC Championship on debut.
Syme was in contention to win last weekend and will have a chance in St. Francis Bay if he can replicate that performance.
Verdict
McKibbin has shown he can compete with the best on the DP World Tour and will be a threat this weekend.
Rozner has posted solid results this year and can go all the way in St. Francis Bay.
Syme looked back to his best last time out and could surprise the others with the victory in South Africa.
