Eighty of the world's premier golfers pair up for the sole team event on the PGA Tour, with the Zurich Classic of New Orleans up for grabs at TPC Louisiana. Which team will lift the trophy come Sunday?
Nick Hardy and Davis Riley are back to defend their title after a two-stroke victory over Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor in 2023.
Past major winners that will tee off on Thursday include Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Matt Fitzpatrick, Collin Morikawa, Zach Johnson, Francesco Molinari, and Gary Woodland.
These are our team selections that could win the title this weekend.
Patrick Cantlay & Xander Schauffele
Patrick Cantlay has featured nine times on the PGA Tour this season, with his best results being T12 at the Sentry, T11 at the AT&T Pebble Beach, T4 at the Genesis Invitational, T22 at the Masters and T3 at the RBC Heritage last weekend.
Xander Schauffele has had an excellent season on the PGA Tour, placing T10 at the Sentry, T3 at American Express, T9 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T4 at the Genesis Invitational, T25 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T2 at the Players Championship, T5 at the Valspar Championship, 8th at the Masters and T18 at the RBC Heritage in ten starts.
The world's number eight and three-ranked players won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in 2022 and placed T4 in 2023.
Rory McIlroy & Shane Lowry
Rory McIlroy has made ten appearances on the DP World Tour and PGA Tour during 2024, with his best results being T2 at the Dubai Invitational, victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, T24 at the Genesis Invitational, T21 at the Cognizant Classic, T21 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T9 at the Players Championship, 3rd at the Valero Texas Open and T22 at the Masters.
The four-time Major champion will debut at the 2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans this weekend.
Shane Lowry has contested nine events this season, with his best achievements on the golf course being T25 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T4 at the Cognizant Classic, T3 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and T19 at the Players Championship.
The former Open champion last featured at the 2022 Zurich Classic of New Orleans, placing T13.
Tom Hoge & Maverick McNealy
Tom Hoge has had a busy schedule on the PGA Tour this season, placing T17 at the American Express, T6 at the AT&T Pebble Beach, T17 at the WM Phoenix Open, 8th at the Genesis Invitational, T12 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T14 at the Texas Children's Houston Open and T18 at the RBC Heritage in 12 appearances.
The 34-year-old American finished T13 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans last year.
Maverick McNealy has not had as impressive a run of form on the PGA Tour as his teammate, with his best results being T6 at the WM Phoenix Open, T13 at the Mexico Open, and T9 at the Players Champions in ten tournaments.
The 28-year-old American did not play at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in 2023.
Adam Hadwin & Nick Taylor
Adam Hadwin has been in solid form on the PGA Tour this season, placing T14 at the Sentry, T6 at the American Express, T4 at the Genesis Invitational, and T5 at the Valspar Championship in 11 events.
Nick Taylor had not been as consistent as his teammate this season but did win the WM Phoenix Open and placed T7 at the Sony Open in Hawaii and T12 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in 11 outings on the PGA Tour.
The two Canadian golfers placed runners-up at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in 2023.
The Format
The Zurich Classic of New Orleans is played over four days, comprising 80 teams of two.
The cut is the top 33 teams plus ties after 36 holes.
Teams play Four-ball for rounds one and three, where the players each play their own ball for the duration of the round, with the best score on each hole recorded.
Teams play Foursomes for rounds two and four, where players rotate tee shots (one player will tee off on even-numbered holes and the other on odd-numbered holes) and strokes.
Player A will tee off, with Player B taking the next shot etc, until the completion of the hole. The total strokes taken between the team will be the team's score for that hole.
Verdict
Cantlay and Schauffele have been in great shape this season and have claims to win for the second time at TPC Louisiana.
McIlroy and Lowry were part of the winning Ryder Cup team last year and will fancy their chances to secure the title in New Orleans.
Hoge and McNealy are a solid team and offer excellent value in Louisiana.
Hadwin and Taylor will look to go one better than their second-place last year with victory at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans this weekend.
