Petro is demonstrating strength in the BAL 2026, seeking a finals repeat after their 2025 performance. Despite an unexpected loss to RSSB Tigers, Petro’s wins have shown efficiency and dominance, particularly against Nairobi City Thunder and Dar City. The Joburg Giants, on the other hand, have struggled throughout the tournament, losing all their matches and showing inconsistency, especially with three-point shooting. As Petro cruises towards the finals, the Giants hope to finish the tournament on a high note.

Petro have had just one slip-up in the tournament so far and look serious in their intentions to reach the finals like they did in 2025. I don’t expect them to face any problems against the winless Giants.

Disappointing Giants looking to finish on a High

Joburg Giants have been nowhere close to upsetting any opponent so far at BAL 2026, losing all four games while scoring only 296 points.

They were demolished in the opening round by Tanzanian champions Dar City, losing 100-70, hitting just 4 of 24 three-point attempts, missing 9 of 19 free throws, and committing 22 turnovers.

Joburg looked far more competitive in their second game, entering the final quarter level with Nairobi City Thunder, but still lost 71-65, once again struggling from beyond the arc (3/13).

Their third loss came against RSSB Tigers 102-89, where they were solid for 30 minutes, while yesterday the Giants were smashed by Al Ahly 110-72.

Petro in Cruise Control

Petro opened BAL 2026 with a convincing 104-90 win over Al Ahly Benghazi, showing excellent efficiency by hitting 42 of 67 field goal attempts, with Childe Dundao scoring 27 points.

However, they failed to justify their favorite status against RSSB Tigers, losing 82-78 with just 36% shooting and poor free-throw execution (23/32 missed).

The Angolan champions bounced back in dominant fashion on Wednesday, crushing Nairobi City Thunder 97-70 after putting up 59 points in the first half. Milton Valente delivered a flawless shooting display, finishing with 14 points and seven rebounds.

On Friday, they left no room for an upset against Dar City, claiming a convincing 100-75 victory, shooting 57% from the field and dominating the boards with a 41-30 rebounding edge.
