The BMW Championship Predictions - Top contenders for victory in Maryland

The star-studded field of the top 50 players in the FedEx Cup standings converges at the Caves Valley Golf Club to compete in the BMW Championship this weekend. Who will lift the winning trophy on Sunday?

Keegan Bradley is back to defend his title after a one-stroke victory over Ludvig Aberg, Sam Burns, and Adam Scott in 2024. 

Past and present Major winners in the line-up include J.J. Spaun, Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Brian Harman, Justin Rose, Keegan Bradley, Jason Day, Collin Morikawa, Matt Fitzpatrick, Rory McIlroy, Hideki Matsuyama, Lucas Glover, Shane Lowry, and Justin Thomas.  

These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.

Rory McIlroy


Rory McIlroy has been in excellent form in his last four outings on the PGA Tour, placing T19 at the U.S. Open, T6 at the Travelers Championship, T2 at the Genesis Scottish Open, and T7 at the Open Championship.

Other noteworthy results achieved by McIlroy this season include winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the Players Championship, and the Masters, and finishing T4 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic (DP World Tour), T17 at the Genesis Invitational, T15 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T5 at the Texas Children's Houston Open, T12 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, and T7 at the Truist Championship. 

The five-time Major winner has compiled an impressive record at the BMW Championship, placing T32 in 2010, victory in 2012, T59 in 2013, T8 in 2014, T4 in 2015, T42 in 2016, T58 in 2017, 5th in 2018, T19 in 2019, T12 in 2020, 4th in 2021, T8 in 2022, 4th in 2023, and T11 in 2024. 

McIlroy has been in tremendous form this year and can take home the winner's cheque at the Caves Valley Golf Club come Sunday. 

Ludvig Aberg


Ludvig Aberg has been thereabouts on the PGA Tour lately, placing T16 at the Memorial Tournament, T13 at the RBC Canadian Open, MC at the U.S. Open, T36 at the Travelers Championship, T8 at the Genesis Scottish Open, T23 at the Open Championship, and T9 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship last weekend. 

Other prominent performances achieved by Aberg include a T5 at the Sentry, a victory at the Genesis Invitational, a T22 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and a 7th at the Masters.

The 25-year-old Swede placed T2 at the 2024 BMW Championship on debut.

Aberg has threatened to produce a top result and should enter calculations in Baltimore this weekend. 

Ben Griffin


Ben Griffin has been performing well on the PGA Tour during the past three months, placing T8 at the PGA Championship, victory at the Charles Schwab Challenge, 2nd at the Memorial Tournament, T10 at the U.S. Open, T14 at the Travelers Championship, T13 at the Rocket Classic, MC at the John Deere Classic, MC at the Open Championship, T11 at the Wyndham Championship, and T9 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship last weekend.

Other notable results achieved by Griffin this year include a T4 at the Mexico Open, a T4 at the Cognizant Classic, a T18 at the Texas Children's Houston Open, and victory at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. 

The two-time PGA Tour winner is debuting at the BMW Championship this weekend. 

Griffin has had a successful season thus far and can make the frame at the Caves Valley Golf Club this weekend. 

Kurt Kitayama


Kurt Kitayama has been playing consistently well on the PGA Tour lately, placing T5 at the John Deere Classic, T14 at the Barracuda Championship, victory at the 3M Open, T31 at the Wyndham Championship, and T9 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship last weekend.

Additional highlights from Kitayama's season include finishing T5 at he CJ Cup Byron Nelson and T22 at he Charles Schwab Challenge. 

The American has made two appearances at the BMW Championship, finishing T19 in 2022 and T41 in 2024. 

Kitayama has been in great touch lately and can cause an upset victory in Maryland this weekend.

Verdict

McIlroy has enjoyed an outstanding season thus far and can win the BMW Championship for the second time this weekend.
 
Aberg is showing signs that he is ready to win another PGA Tour title.
 
Griffin has done nothing wrong lately and can secure victory in Maryland come Sunday.
 
Kitayama has come good lately and could cause an upset victory at the Caves Valley Golf Club this weekend.
