Lorenzo Musetti is set to take on Novak Djokovic, a player he has struggled against in past encounters, having lost four hard court matches without winning a set. The Italian, who rose to the Top 10 after a successful clay season, has shown promise recently, including a victory over Taylor Fritz. Despite Djokovic's recent resilience at the Australian Open, there is anticipation about Musetti’s ability to challenge the Serbian’s dominance. Key odds favor Djokovic, but Musetti’s improved form could lead to an intriguing match.

Lorenzo Musetti has had massive struggles against Djokovic in the past and has not taken a set off the Serb in four hard court matches. However, the Italian has been playing well and can challenge the former world No. 1.

Head to Head

Novak Djokovic has dominated in their 10 previous matches, winning on nine occasions. In four hard court battles, Djokovic has yet to drop a set.

Lorenzo Musetti Form

Lorenzo Musetti became a Top 10 player in May after a great run on clay. His two ATP Tour titles came in 2022.

The Italian started the year in Hong Kong where he overcame Andrey Rublev 6-7 7-5 6-4 in the semi-finals. He went down 7-6 6-3 to Alexander Bublik in the final, his eighth consecutive defeat in finals.

The 23-year-old has had some mixed performances at the Australian Open, Raphael Collignon retiring in the fourth set before beating Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets.

Musetti needed 5 sets to get past Tomas Machac, saving 10/15 break points in the process. He was far more efficient in the fourth round, winning 69% of his 2nd serves in a 6-2 7-5 6-4 thrashing of ninth seed Taylor Fritz.

Novak Djokovic Form

Novak Djokovic lost in all four Grand Slam semi-finals last year, unable to get it done against younger opponents led by Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

The 38-year-old withdrew from the Adelaide International but has had no problems at the Australian Open where he is chasing an 11th title. He recorded 6-3 6-2 6-2 victories over Pedro Martinez and Francesco Maestrelli.

The World No.4 was on the court longer against Botic van de Zandschulp, getting through 6-3 6-4 7-6 in just under three hours. He has now won his last 87 matches when winning the first set.

Djokovic had a walkover against Jakub Mensik in the fourth round.

Verdict

Novak Djokovic’s Australian Open quest couldn’t have gone any better, the Serbian spending less than seven hours on court. Djokovic is 9-1 against Lorenzo Musetti and backed to get this one in 4 sets.
