Jannik Sinner vs Ben Shelton Predictions

Jannik Sinner can count himself very lucky to be in this match after being two sets down against Dimitrov before the Bulgarian had to retire hurt. However, he is the world No. 1 for a reason and while Shelton can take a set, Sinner is the likely winner.

  • Jannik Sinner has won 52 of his last 56 matches.
  • Jannik Sinner has won 13 of his last 15 matches at Wimbledon.
  • Ben Shelton has seen a 1st set tie break in 3 of his last 4 matches against Top 5 players.

Head to Head

These two have met six times in total with 2023 being their first encounter. Shelton won on that occasion but Sinner has the last five without dropping a set. They met in the round of 16 at Wimbledon last year, a match Sinner won 6-2 6-4 7-6

Jannik Sinner Form

Jannik Sinner has the Australian Open title this season already and played a huge part in the French Open final. That match will go down in the history books as one of the best matches ever played.

The first three rounds at Wimbledon saw Sinner in cruise mode, comfortably seeing off Luca Nardi, Aleksandar Vukic and Pedro Martinez without dropping a set or a game on serve.

Rightfully the Italian went into his fourth ruond match as heavy favourite against Grigor Dimitrov. But the Bulgarian produced a stunning display to win the first two sets 6-3 7-5. At 2-2 in the third set, Dimitrov was forced out of the contest due to a pectoral injury.

Ben Shelton Form

Ben Shelton hasn't had many issues at Wimbledon but to be fair, he hardly played anyone of note in his first three rounds.

The 22-year-old cruised past Alex Bold, Rinky Hijikata and Marton Fucsovics in straight sets. In the last round, Sinner came up against Lorenzo Sonego, someone who he has played extensively this year.

Shelton dropped his first set of the tournament but bounced back to beat Sonego 3-6 6-1 7-6 7-5. That has set up an interesting clash against Sinner, a player he lost to in the Australian Open earlier this season.

Verdict

I fancy Shelton to take a set against Sinner, particularly if the Italian isn't quite at it on Wednesday. However, a 3-1 win is tipped for Sinner.
