Al Ahly with Two Losses on the Bounce
Al Ahly Benghazi have made a poor start to the Basketball African League, currently sitting 5th in the Kalahari Conference with zero wins after two rounds.
They opened the tournament with a 103-95 defeat to RSSB Tigers, where Joseph Lual-Acuil’s double-double (17 points, 12 rebounds) wasn’t enough to fuel a second-half comeback. Donovan Williams was the top scorer with 28 points.
Al Ahly failed to respond on Saturday, once again starting slowly (18-32 in the first quarter) against Petro, which led to a 104-90 defeat despite dominating the boards 40-28. Their free-throw execution was poor (24/38).
Dar City Looking like Early Dark Horses
Dar City have been the biggest surprise package at BAL 2026 so far, sitting top of the table with two wins from two matches.
The Tanzanian champions crushed tournament hosts Joburg Giants 100-70 in the opening game, building a 27-point lead by half-time. Nisre Zouzoua was named man of the match with 35 points and five rebounds.
They were tested more in the second round by Nairobi City Thunder but held on for a 90-85 victory, largely thanks to David Michinean, who delivered a dominant performance with 39 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
