The LIV Golf Invitational Series and a field of the world's best golfers returns to Mexico for the inaugural event at Club de Golf Chapultepec this weekend. Who will take home the winner's cheque come Sunday?

Current top-ten in the individual points standings after five rounds:

  1. Joaquin Niemann 84.66 pts
  2. Sergio Garcia 78 pts
  3. Jon Rahm 76.36 pts
  4. Marc Leishman 57.66 pts
  5. Dean Burmester 55.41 pts
  6. David Puig 53.75 pts
  7. Sebastian Munoz 53.70 pts
  8. Carlos Ortiz 45 pts
  9. Adrian Meronk 44.56 pts
 10. Brooks Koepka 42.80 pts

These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.

Patrick Reed

Patrick Reed has had a decent start to his season on the LIV Golf Tour, finishing T44 in Riyadh, T37 in Adelaide, T10 in Hong Kong, and T25 in Singapore.

Reed has found another gear lately, placing 2nd at the Invitational Series in Macau on the Asian Tour, T7 in Miami, and 3rd at the recent Masters.

Before those results, Reed contested three DP World Tour events, placing T10 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, T8 at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship, and T60 at the Bahrain Championship.

Reed has come good in recent outings and will fancy his chances to lift the winning trophy in Mexico this weekend.

Dean Burmester

Dean Burmester played two on the DP World Tour tournaments at the start of his season, finishing T28 at the Alfred Dunhill Championship before missing the cut at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.

Burmester has been in better shape since returning to the LIV Golf League, placing T4 in Riyadh, T12 in Adelaide, T37 at the South African Open Championship (DP World Tour), 2nd in Hong Kong, T29 in Singapore, and T14 in Miami.

Burmester offers excellent value at Club de Golf Chapultepec after his recent two top-five places this season.

David Puig

David Puig had an excellent start to his season on the DP World Tour, finishing 3rd at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship and T4 at the Bahrain Championship.

After those performances, Puig returned to the LIV Golf League, placing T6 in Riyadh, 4th in Adelaide, T18 in Hong Kong, 4th in Singapore, T40 at the International Series in Macau (Asian Tour), and T14 in Miami.

Puig has threatened to win a title lately and can go all the way at Club de Golf Chapultepec this weekend.

Tom McKibbin

Tom McKibbin contested three tournaments on the DP World Tour at the start of his season, finishing 60th at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, T24 at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, and T6 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.

Soon after, McKibbin joined the LIV Golf Tour and has continued to play well, placing T15 in Riyadh, T7 in Adelaide, T6 in Hong Kong, T25 in Singapore, T3 at the Singapore Classic (DP World Tour), and T14 in Miami.

McKibbin has been playing well lately and could upstage the others by winning the title in Mexico City.

Format

An invitational field of 54 golfers will feature at the tournament, with a total purse of $25 million up for grabs. $4 million will go to the winner, while the player coming in last will pocket $50,000.

The players will contest 54 holes instead of 72 for all the LIV Golf Invitational Series events.

A shotgun start will occur, where the players will tee off simultaneously from different holes.

A 13-four-man team (four players each and two wild-card players) format will run concurrent, with the top three teams earning prize money.

Verdict

Reed has strong claims to win the title in Mexico City after his recent performances.

Burmester has been thereabouts and should enter calculations.

Puig has the form to secure victory at Club de Golf Chapultepec come Sunday.

McKibbin has been producing consistent results and can win his maiden LIV Golf title this weekend.
