The DP World Tour and its players will compete for the Italian Open at the Argentario Golf Club for the first time this weekend. Who will lift the winning trophy come Sunday?

Marcel Siem is back to defend his title after a playoff victory over Tom McKibbin in 2024.

The Argentario Golf Club has hosted the PGA Pro Captain Challenge final four consecutive times.

These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.

Ewen Ferguson

Ewen Ferguson lacked consistency during the opening five months of his season on the DP World Tour, recording a T31 at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, a 16th at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, a T17 at the Hero Indian Open, a T32 at the Volvo China Open, and a T33 at the Turkish Airlines Open in nine events.

However, Ferguson has been in fine fettle in his subsequent two tournaments, placing T2 at the Soudal Open and T4 at the KLM Open.

The three-time DP World Tour winner missed the cut at the 2023 Italian Open on debut before finishing T29 in 2024.

Ferguson appears to have turned the corner and looks set to return to the winner's circle in Italy this weekend.

Kristoffer Reitan

Kristoffer Reitan struggled with his game in the first 12 starts of his season, with his best results being T36 at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship, T24 at the Bahrain Championship, T14 at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, and T31 at the Hero Indian Open.

After those performances, Reitan bounced back to his best, placing T2 at the Hainan Classic, T33 at the Turkish Airlines Open, victory at the Soudal Open, T2 at the Alpine Austrian Open, and T13 at the KLM Open.

The Norwegian golfer placed T5 on debut at the 2020 Italian Open.

Reitan has been holding form since his maiden DP World Tour title and should enter calculations.

Jayden Schaper

Jayden Schaper lacked consistency at the beginning of his season on the DP World Tour, recording an MC at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, a T13 at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, a T21 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, a T61 at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship, and an MC at the Bahrain Championship in five outings.

Schaper soon regained this touch, placing T5 at the Qatar Masters, 4th at the Magical Kenya Open, T16 at the South African Open Championship, and T9 at the Joburg Open.

However, Schaper's form dipped after those performances, with results of MC at the Porsche Singapore Classic, MC at the Hero Indian Open, T24 at the Turkish Airlines Open, and MC at the Soudal Open before rediscovering his form from earlier in the year, placing T5 at the Austrian Alpine and 3rd at the KLM Open.

The South African missed the cut at the 2024 Italian Open on debut.

Schaper will look to cap off his recent results with a victory at the Argentario Golf Club this weekend.

Martin Couvra

Martin Couvra began his season on the DP World Tour well, placing T7 at the Alfred Dunhill Championship before missing the cut at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open and the Ras Al Khaimah Championship.

Couvra improved his game after those disappointing results, finishing T4 at the Bahrain Championship, T5 at the Qatar Masters, T53 at the Magical Kenya Open, T14 at the Porsche Singapore Classic, and T31 at the Hero Indian Open in his subsequent five tournaments.

Couvra has found another gear lately, recording a 5th at the Hainan Classic, a victory at the Turkish Airlines Open, an MC at the Soudal Open, and a T8 at the Austrian Alpine Open.

The Frenchman is debuting at the 2025 Italian Open.

Couvra has been in great touch lately and can win the title in Italy this weekend.

Verdict

Ferguson has every chance of winning the Italian Open if he can replicate his previous two performances.

Reitan has been in excellent form lately and can take home the winner's cheque at the Argentario Golf Club this weekend.

Schaper has done nothing wrong lately and can emerge as the winner in Italy come Sunday.

Couvra has the form to secure his second title on the DP World Tour.
