The DP World Tour returns to Europe with a stellar field of the world's finest golfers competing for the Open de Espana title in Madrid. Who will lift the trophy in Spain this Sunday?

Angel Hildalgo returns to Madrid to defend his title after a playoff victory over Jon Rahm in 2024.

Past Major winners in the field include Jon Rahm, Shane Lowry, Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia, and Danny Willett.

These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.

Joaquin Niemann

Joaquin Niemann has enjoyed a stellar season on the LIV Golf League this year, capturing multiple titles along the way.

Niemann triumphed in Adelaide, Singapore, Mexico City, Virginia, and the United Kingdom.

Additionally, Niemann placed T5 at the ISPS Handa Australian Open (DP World Tour), T3 at the International Series in India (Asian Tour), T12 in Hong Kong, T8 at the PGA Championship, T17 in Chicago, T4 in Indianapolis, and T20 at the recent BMW PGA Championship (DP World Tour).
The seven-time LIV Golf Tour winner is debuting at the Open de Espana this weekend.

Niemann has been in great touch during 2025 and could win his sixth title of the season at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid

Shane Lowry

Shane Lowry has been thereabouts on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour lately, finishing T23 at the BMW Championship, T13 at the Tour Championship, T15 at the Amgen Irish Open, and T46 at the BMW PGA Championship.

Other prominent performances achieved by Lowry this season include a 2nd at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, a T11 at the Cognizant Classic, a 7th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, a T20 at the Players Championship, a T8 at the Valspar Championship, T42 at the Masters, a T18 at the RBC Heritage, a T12 at the Zurich Masters in New Orleans, a T2 at the Truist Championship, and a T23 at the Memorial Tournament.

The Ryder Cup Champion finished T13 at the 2024 Open de Espana on debut.

Lowry has had a solid season and should enter calculations at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid this weekend.

Kristoffer Reitan

Kristoffer Reitan has been performing well on the DP World Tour during the past two months, placing T3 at the Nexo Championship, and T6 at the Danish Golf Championship before finishing T46 at the Betfred British Masters, MC at the Amgen Irish Open, and T24 at the BMW PGA Championship, T5 at the FedEx Open de France, and T5 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship last weekend.

Other notable results achieved by Reitan this year include a T24 at the Bahrain Championship, a T14 at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, a T2 at the Hainan Classic, a victory at the Soudal Open, a T2 at the Alpine Austrian Open, a T13 at the KLM Open, a T4 at the BMW International Open, and a T13 at the Genesis Scottish Open.

The Norwegian missed the cut at the 2019 Open de Espana in his only appearance at this event.

Reitan will look to go all the way and win in Spain this weekend after his recent results.

Angel Ayora

Angel Ayora has been in solid form on the DP World Tour since the end of August, placing T13 at the Betfred British Masters, T8 at the Omega European Masters, T5 at the Amgen Irish Open, T54 at the BMW PGA Championship, T56 at the Open de Espana, and T5 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship last weekend.

Other noteworthy results achieved by Ayora this season include a T6 at the BMW Australian PGA Championship, a T23 at the ISPS Handa Australian Open, a T5 at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, a T14 at the Qatar Masters, a T20 at the Magical Kenya Open, a T11 at the Soudal Open, a T19 at the KLM Open, and a T7 at the Italian Open.

The young Spaniard contested the Open de Espana twice as an amateur, finishing T55 in 2022 and MC in 2023.

Ayora will have a chance of victory in Madrid after recording three top-ten results in five starts.

Verdict

Niemann has been in superb form this season and will fancy his chances to take home the winner's cheque in Madrid this weekend.

Lowry has been thereabouts on the leaderboards lately and is overdue a victory.

Reitan can convert his recent results into a winning performance at the Open de Espana.

Ayora is playing well and can go all the way at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.
