The 4-year-old chestnut filly has only just been sneaking into the placings in her last handful of races (9-6-3-5-4-3). A slow starter but with good legs at the close, I fancy her to pick up an elusive win in a strong field that includes Clouds Clearing (4.50), Chickasaw (4.50), Wedding Vow (3.75) and La Petrona (4.50).

Race 5 – Country Time (9)

The 6-year-old mare followed up her win at the start of September with a poor seventh a month ago, when she slipped from the front pack to second from the back as a late flurry of horses pulled out some extra legs. Jockey Brevan Plaatjies will have worked with her to get back to their winning strategy of their previous race where she stormed home by two-plus lengths. Watch for Easy Living (4.00) to push her to the tape, despite poor recent finishes of 12-9-13-5-3-5.

Jockey: R Fourie | Trainer: J Crawford

Coming off a 110-day break should give the 4-year-old grey filly the legs to take it from a strong field for her 4th career win. Pink Pigeon (7.00), Babelcious (5.50) and Papillon Blu (6.50) are included in a 10-horse field that will give you headaches if you’re determined to place your bet on the trifecta.

Race 9 – Steadfast (2)

Jockey: J V'd Merwe | Trainer: Justin Snaith

Three scratchings from the 14-horse field isn’t making it easier to call a race that I see having up to seven horses touching the tail of my pick for first past the post, Steadfast, offering incredible value at 9.00. The 5-year-old bay gelding won his last race less than a month ago after a 492-day break, with a first-placing coming two races before that break. He’s slow to start but saves it for the late turbo burst that has characterised his three career wins.

Red State to break her duck in Race 3, while Country Time to hold out for the win in Race 5.

A well-rested Artiste should have the extra bite in her legs to take Race 8, with Steadfast to power his way home for a 4th win in Race 9
