Race 4 – In Motion (3)

Jockey: Callan Murray | Trainer: Justin Snaith

This has the potential to be a cut and dried podium. In Motion has the power to run away with the Maiden Plate following consecutive second places over the past two months. Klein Karoo could follow a length-plus behind, followed by Beware, with the rest of the pack in their dust.

Race 5 – Beach Verse (8)

Jockey: Serino Moodley | Trainer: Candice Bass

This is a strong field that could see between five to seven horses jostling for the tape. Bay filly Reet Petite (4.50) is coming off an early September win and Music of the Night (4.00) has two wins, a second place and a third in the past 12 months, and either could take it, but I’m tipping my hat for Beach Verse, who looks hungry after finishing 3-2-1 from June to August.

Race 7 – Viva’s Liberte (4)

Jockey: Serino Moodley | Trainer: Candice Bass

The three-year-old bay colt Viva’s Liberte has had a 41-day break since a strong win in Durbanville at the end of August and should have the legs to take this one. Yamazaki is good for a podium place, having finished 3-2-1 in his last three races.

Race 9 – Mariachi Madness (2)

Jockey: J van der Merwe | Trainer: Clinton Binda

The field is down to 15 with the scratching of Good to Great, and it looks far too tight to call. Chapbook (4.5), Typically French (34.00) and Gallic Forge (15.00) all won their last races. The seven-year old Sun-Dazed (13.00) has been used sparingly in the past year and could be hankering to stretch his legs and pick up a fifth win since 2021. I’m backing five-year-old gelding Mariachi Madness, who has gone 3-4-2 and, with a month’s break, should have the strength in his legs to outlast this tough and diverse field.

Beach Verse (Race 5) and Mariachi Madness (Race 9) will have to stretch to the line against tough fields.
