Best Bet of the Day

Race 1 – ONO NO KOMACHI (3)

Jockey: S’manga Khumalo | Trainer: Alan Greeff

Punters can look for a confident start in the opener with Ono No Komachi, who looks the standout pick on today’s card. She ran on strongly for second over this course and distance in her latest appearance and now drops into an easier grade. With champion jockey S’manga Khumalo keeping the ride, the daughter of One World should get the run of the race in this small field. Everything points to her being the one they all have to beat.

Race 2 – DESERT CLOUD (1)

Jockey: Luyolo Mxothwa | Trainer: Z Oosthuizen

Desert Cloud showed real promise on her local debut, finishing well for second over the same course and trip. She may have thrown away the win by hanging late, but with Luyolo Mxothwa now booked, she looks poised to make amends. Expect her to be right there at the finish and go one better this time.

Race 6 – FEW DOLLARS MORE (1)

Jockey: Craig Little | Trainer: Glen Kotzen

The Kotzen stable sends Few Dollars More to Fairview after an eye-catching run at Greyville where he finished a close second over 1400m. The form of that race has already been boosted with the runner-up coming out to win. If he handles the travel well, he has every chance of producing a winning performance here.

Race 7 – FAIRY KNIGHT (1)

Jockey: Luyolo Mxothwa | Trainer: Alan Greeff

Forget his last effort in the Grade 2 Golden Horse Sprint where something was clearly amiss — Fairy Knight is much better than that run. Returning fresh from a 12-week break, he comes back to a track and trip he loves, unbeaten in three starts here. If he’s fit enough on his return, he’s the one they’ll all need to chase down.

Value Bet of the Day

Race 8 – CRUZADOR (5)

Jockey: Craig Zackey | Trainer: Gavin Smith

Consistency has been the story for Cruzador, who has placed fourth in each of his last three starts. Over 1400m last time he raced too freely early on, costing himself a better finish. He enjoys this course and distance, with a record that includes a win and multiple placings from nine runs. Now dropping to a very competitive mark, the veteran seven-year-old could easily spring a surprise at rewarding odds.
