An exhilarating race day awaits with promising newcomers and seasoned runners. In Race 4, debutant Spaarne Rivier, guided by jockey Callan Murray, seeks redemption after a strong initial outing. Race 6 features King Bavarian, fresh off a comeback victory, as a major contender. Meanwhile, Race 8's highlight is Princess Hannah, consistently dominant and poised for another thrilling comeback from the back. Finally, Race 9 sees Pinetti aiming to capitalize on recent momentum against fierce competition, making for an unmissable conclusion.
- Newbie Spaarne Rivier is a strong favorite in Race 4.
- King Bavarian could stand out in Race 6’s tight field.
- Princess Hannah to take it by a nose from Major Tommie in Race 8.
- Pinetti is a tough pick to hold off the five-pack in Race 9.

Race 4 – Spaarne Rivier (3)
Jockey: Callan Murray
Trainer: Mike/mathe Kock
The nine-horse field doesn’t hold a single race winner, which makes it a possible great day at the races for newcomer Spaarne Rivier. His first race a month ago saw him start well and push from third into the lead around the last 400m, but he perhaps broke early as he was overtaken, ending in third. Callan Murray rode two winners last Greyville race day a fortnight ago and should know how to take Spaarne Rivier to the tape in this field with some space behind his tail.
Race 6 – King Bavarian (6)
Jockey: Damyan Pillay
Trainer: Alyson Wright
Race 6 should be a thriller, with a handful of horses all nodding hard for the line. The 6-year-old bay gelding has run twice since an 81-day break, picking up a win in his first race back. He has raced 17 times since June 2024, picking up 10 top three finishes and three wins in his last eight. Two other winners who could push KB are Silver Platter (5.00) and Connoisseur (4.00), both having picked up recent wins. Those three make a great trio to shuffle around for the trifecta.
Race 8 – Princess Hannah (4)
Jockey: Tristan Godden
Trainer: Paul Gadsby
Major Tommie is looking every bit the winner coming from gate 3 and is coming off a 3-2-1 spread of placings. My money’s on serial-winner Princess Hannah, the 5-year-old bay mare trained by Paul Gadsby. She has six wins from 16 starts since the start of 2024… but her three wins in her last six (plus a 4th place) have me excited. Don’t tear up your stub too soon if she seems to be flagging - her last two wins (both at Greyville) saw her catapult from near the back to power home for convincing wins. She’s a peach to watch, and you’ll kick yourself for not dipping into your pocket or tapping into those bitcoins.
Race 9 – Pinetti (8)
Jockey: Craig Zackey
Trainer: Dennis Bosch
Take your pick from four in a strong field to end the race day. Perfume Power was looking a good call (4231) but the bay filly has been scratched. That still leaves a clump of favourites to sift through. My pick is the 3-year-old bay colt Pinetti, who has finished 2-2-5-1 in his last four runs, with a 98-day break ahead of his win that saw him run the rail powerfully after a slow start to take the tape with room to spare. Also in the frame should be Tripping Thunder (4.50), Kinshin Sha (5.50) and Rainbow Reward (3.75).
Verdict
Spaarne Rivier to make a name for himself in his second race, while King Bavarian is a good bet to steal a photo finish in Race 6.
Princess Hannah should hold out for the win after bursting through from the back, while Pinetti has plenty of power to hold off a tough pack.
