Race 2 – Star Blaze (3)

Star Blaze looks a sure thing if ever there was to win this mini race by a couple of lengths. With just four other horses competing for the 11:15am Maiden Plate, the 4-yr-old bay filly placed second in her first race a fortnight ago and looks to have the legs to outrun the two other debutants and the other pair who haven’t finished above third since early July last year.

Race 4 – Asiah’s Tiara (6)


Jockey: Trent Mayhew
Trainer: Craig Mayhew
Blood of Eden looks a strong contender in this 7-horse race, but I’m backing Asiah’s Tiara. The 5-yr-old bay filly has had a month off after two disappointing races at the start of the year. Last year she was a consistent top-five finisher, with three second-places and four third-places in the second half of the year, so I’m backing Team Mayhew to pull a win out the bag. 

Race 6 – Rafa Bay (4)


Jockey: Kabelo Matsunyane
Trainer: AP Peter
Mover and Shaker won his last race but had a very inconsistent year in 2025. Rafa Bay is the kind of consistent runner I prefer to hang my hat on. The 5-yr-old bay gelding has run 3-1-1-3-2-2-4 in his last seven outings and looks primed to top the podium.

Race 8 – Blindfire (3)


Jockey: Blaine Marx-Jacobson
Trainer: AP Peter
It looks like a close run thing for this tight field of 12 horses in the feature race of the day. There are four recent winners waiting in the gates, but Blindfire stands out to me for her consistency. The 4-yr-old chestnut filly has finishes of 3-2-2-3-2-3 in her last nine races and she looks like she has the legs to nose it in a tight race.

Verdict

Easy pickings for Star Blaze and Rafa Bay, but Asiah’s Tiara will have to work hard for her win.
