Race 3 – Hazel Green (10)

A bumper field of 17 horses shouldn't concern Hazel Green. While Swift Serenity placed second on her last race, the rest of the field is inexperienced and lacking good placings in their recent races. The one exception is Hazel Green - the 4-yr-old bay filly has placed 2-3-2-2-2 in her last five runs and should have the legs to take the win.

Race 5 – Homing Pigeon (3)

Jockey: Craig Zackey | Trainer: Justin Snaith

The 4-yr-old bay filly Homing Pigeon is fresh from 33 days of preparation for this Kenilworth meet and should be in great shape to claim her first win. Her recent runs have been 3-2-3, so she should be hungry for the win. Trailing in her wake is likely to be Loui’s Star (5-3-0-3-2), Up In Flames (7-4-2-4-3) and Woman in Gold (9-7-4-2).

Race 8 – Hiawatha Goldberg (6)

Jockey: Sifisokuhle Bungane | Trainer: Herman Brown

With Blast From the Past scratched the field is down to eight runners and it’s looking like a close one. Hiawatha Goldberg is the only runner to win in their last five runs, the 6-yr-old bay gelding running 2-5-1 in his last three races.

Don’t expect him to take the early lead - his last run saw him win at Kenilworth after sitting in fourth place for much of the race before an incredible late charge took him to the win.

Race 10 – Demanding Dave (8)

Jockey: Andrew Fortune | Trainer: Mike Stewart

The final race of the day should see a real ding-dong battle between the US of A, Demanding Dave, Gold Giboski and One Liner. The US of A has run 1-1-2-1-5 in his last five starts, while the other three challengers have all won their last two races on the bounce.

I’m going to plump for one of the youngsters in the field, 4-yr-old Demanding Dave, to take it by a whisker. The bay gelding has run 4-1-2-1-1 in his last five starts, with his last win coming at Kenilworth in a real battle for the line. He’s a powerful charger and, with a month break from racing since that win at Kenilworth, he has my backing.
