In the last 16, it was a more fluent Djokovic as he defeated Borna Gojo 6-2 7-5 6-4 in an untroubled display. He also downed Taylor Fritz in straight sets with a 6-1 6-4 6-4 quarter-final victory.

Ben Shelton Form

Ben Shelton is 19-22 this year, his best previous result on the ATP Tour coming at the Australian Open where he reached the quarter-finals.

The 20-year-old’s last two defeats have come against Top 10 players, going down 6-3 7-6 against Carlos Alcaraz in Toronto and 7-6 7-6 against Stefanos Tsitsipas in Cincinnati.

The American beat Pedro Cachin 1-6 6-3 6-2 6-4 in the US Open first round and was leading Dominic Thiem 7-6 1-0 when Thiem retired.

Shelton defeated Aslan Karatsev 6-4 3-6 6-2 6-0 before taking out 14th seed Tommy Paul 6-4 6-3 4-6 6-4 in the fourth round.

In the quarter-finals, Shelton won another four-setter against Frances Tiafoe with a 6-2 3-6 7-6 6-2 victory over the world no.10.
