The Basketball Africa League 2026 sees the RSSB Tigers emerge as the standout team, leading the Kalahari Conference with an unbeaten record. Their victories include a thrilling offensive win against Al Ahly and a strategic play against Petro. Meanwhile, Dar City, who began the tournament dominantly, now faces challenges after consecutive losses to Al Ahly and Petro. Despite their recent setbacks, Dar City's position in the quarterfinals shouldn't be jeopardized, although their gameplay calls for strategic reassessment.

Dar City had a strong start to the tournament but haven’t shown much against Petro and Al Ahly. Can they become the first team to beat RSSB Tigers at BAL 2026?

Tigers Flying High

RSSB Tigers have been one of the biggest surprises at BAL 2026 so far, topping the Kalahari Conference with three victories from three contests.

The Rwandan champions opened their campaign with a strong offensive display in a 103-95 win over Al Ahly Benghazi, with US duo Leonard Randall (37 points) and Teafale Lenard Jr (27 points) leading the way.

They followed that up with a major upset, defeating last year’s finalists Petro 82-78, with Lenard starring again with 26 points, while Mangok Mathiang added a double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds).

Their third win in a row was secured on Wednesday, beating tournament hosts Joburg Giants 102-89, with Randall carrying them to victory with 39 points.

Dar City Drop Off after Great Start

The Tanzanian champions dominated hosts Joburg Giants 100-70 in the opener, building a 27-point lead by halftime. Nisre Zouzoua led the way with 35 points and five rebounds.

Dar City were pushed harder in the second round by Nairobi City Thunder but held on for a 90-85 win, with David Michinean delivering a standout performance of 39 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Their winning run ended earlier this week with a poor defensive showing in an 118-97 loss to Al Ahly. Despite the defeat, Michael Foster impressed with 37 points on 13/17 shooting.

A second loss in a row was registered yesterday, a convincing one against Petro (100-75), but it shouldn’t jeopardize their quarterfinal placement.
