Joburg Giants, struggling with a 0-3 record, need a miracle in the BAL 2026 rounds to make the quarterfinals. Despite competitive performances, they have failed to secure a win. On the other hand, Al Ahly has rebounded strongly after a disappointing start, securing their place in the quarterfinals with impressive victories. With a consolation win on the line for the Giants, they prepare to meet the in-form Al Ahly on Saturday, hoping to upset the odds.

Joburg Giants have been left with minimal hope of reaching the next stage. Can they claim a consolation win against red-hot Al Ahly on Saturday?

Giants to Remain Winless on Home soil

Joburg Giants will need a miracle in the remaining two BAL 2026 rounds to secure a spot in the quarterfinals, currently sitting bottom of the Kalahari Conference with a 0-3 record.

They were demolished in the opening round by Tanzanian champions Dar City, losing 100-70, hitting just 4 of 24 three-point attempts, missing 9 of 19 free throws, and committing 22 turnovers.

Joburg looked far more competitive in their second game, entering the final quarter level with Nairobi City Thunder, but still lost 71-65, once again struggling from beyond the arc (3/13).

The Giants were shoulder to shoulder with RSSB Tigers in the third round for 30 minutes, but collapsed in the final quarter and lost 102-89.

Al Ahly Looking for further Improvement

Even though the start to the tournament was quite disappointing, Al Ahly recovered during the week and punched their quarterfinal ticket.

They opened with a 103-95 loss to RSSB Tigers, where Joseph Lual-Acuil’s double-double (17 points, 12 rebounds) wasn’t enough to spark a second-half comeback. Donovan Williams led the scoring with 28 points.

Al Ahly failed to respond in the next round, starting slowly again (18-32 first quarter) in a 104-90 loss to Petro, despite winning the rebounding battle 40-28. Free-throw shooting was an issue (24/38).

Their playoff hopes stayed alive with an emphatic 118-97 win over Dar City on Tuesday, scoring 67 points in the second half. Majok Deng led the way with 22 points on 8/10 shooting.

Yesterday, Al Ahly cruised past Nairobi City Thunder 107-80, with Joseph Lual-Acuil leading the way with 23 points and 11 assists.
