The LIV Golf Invitational Series returns to Europe, where a field of the world's best players will vie for victory at the spiritual home of Spanish golf, Valderrama. Who will pocket the winner's cheque come Sunday?
Sergio Garcia is back to defend his title after a playoff victory over Anirban Lahiri in 2024.
Current top-ten in the individual points standings after nine rounds:
1. Joaquin Niemann 165.52 pts
2. Bryson DeChambeau 131.10 pts
3. Jon Rahm 124.16 pts
4. Patrick Reed 81.08 pts
5. Sergio Garcia 78 pts
6. Sebastian Munoz 72.39 pts
7. Lucas Herbert 71.90 pts
8. Carlos Ortiz 66.00 pts
9. David Puig 65.10 pts
10. Marc Leishman 64.86 pts
These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.
Bryson DeChambeau
Bryson DeChambeau was playing well at the start of his season on the Asian Tour and LIV Golf Tour, finishing 2nd at the International Series in India, T6 in Riyadh, T18 in Adelaide, T20 in Hong Kong, and T10 in Singapore.
DeChambeau kicked on from those results, placing 5th in Miami, T5 at the Masters, T2 in Mexico City, victory in South Korea, T2 at the PGA Championship, T4 in Virginia, MC at the U.S. Open, and T9 in Dallas in his last eight outings.
The two-time Major winner has made two appearances at LIV Golf Andalucia, placing 2nd in 2023 and 9th in 2024.
DeChambeau has been ever-present on the leaderboards this season and can make the frame at Valderrama this weekend.
Tyrrell Hatton
Tyrrell Hatton had the perfect start to his season, winning the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour before returning to the LIV Golf League.
Hatton produced steady results after that performance, finishing T6 in Riyadh, T23 in Adelaide, T20 in Hong Kong, T19 in Singapore, T33 in Miami, and T14 at the Masters.
Hatton has been in better shape lately, placing T5 in Mexico City, T13 in South Korea, T60 at the PGA Championship, T15 in Virginia, T4 at the U.S. Open, and T5 in Dallas.
The 33-year-old placed 3rd overall in LIV Golf Andalucia in 2024.
Hatton is showing signs he is ready to win his second tournament of the year in Spain this weekend.
Sergio Garcia
Sergio Garcia had an excellent beginning of his season on the LIV Golf Tour, placing T6 in Riyadh, T18 in Adelaide, victory in Hong Kong, T32 in Singapore, 4th at the International Series in Macau (Asian Tour), and 3rd in Miami.
Garcia's form has dipped since those performances, with results of MC at the Masters, 50th in Mexico City, T42 in South Korea, T67 at the PGA Championship, T38 in Virginia, T25 in Dallas, and MC at the BMW International Open (DP World Tour) last weekend.
However, Garcia loves to play at Valderrama, winning the Andalucia Masters on the DP World Tour in 2011, 2016, and 2017.
The former Masters champion placed T10 in the 2023 LIV Golf Andalucia event before winning outright in 2024.
Garcia has a proven track record at Valderrama and should enter calculations.
Brooks Koepka
Brooks Koepka was in decent nick at the start of his season in the LIV Golf League, placing T33 in Riyadh, T7 in Adelaide, T35 in Hong Kong, and 2nd in Singapore.
Koepka has not produced any fireworks lately, finishing T18 in Miami, MC at the Masters, T30 in Mexico City, MC at the PGA Championship, T17 in South Korea, T33 in Virginia, and T12 at the U.S. Open.
The five-time Major winner finished 3rd in 2023 and T27 in 2024 at LIV Golf Andalucia.
Koepka has been thereabouts on the LIV Golf Tour lately and is due for a big performance.
Format
An invitational field of 54 golfers will feature at the tournament, with a total purse of $25 million up for grabs. $4 million will go to the winner, while the player coming in last will pocket $50,000.
The players will contest 54 holes instead of 72 for all the LIV Golf Invitational Series events.
A shotgun start will occur, where the players will tee off simultaneously from different holes.
A 13-four-man team (four players each and two wild-card players) format will run concurrent, with the top three teams earning prize money.
Verdict
DeChambeau has played top golf throughout the year and can emerge victorious this weekend.
Hatton has done nothing wrong lately and has every chance of winning his second LIV Golf Tour title come Sunday.
Garcia excels when playing at Valderrama, giving him the confidence to secure back-to-back titles.
Koepka offers an excellent each-way bet in Spain this weekend.
