Best Bet of the Day - Vaal Race Track

Race 1 – Caladrius (7)


Jockey: Phenisile Mongqawa
Trainer: A. P. Peter
Caladrius is a 3-yr-old bay filly with just four runs under her belt, but she came in strong in her last two runs, finishing third and then fourth and looks to have the legs to step it up in a 10-horse field with only three other horses having claimed a third-place finish.

A very strong contender (and the pick for many punters) will be Master’s Lady (3.00) who has been on a stormer, finishing 5-4-3-2-2-4. She hasn’t had a break from the track since October 2025 so perhaps she might be running low on gas.

Race 5 – Steel Pier (3)


Jockey: Sam Mosia
Trainer: F. P. Habib
Steel Pier is also new to the track, with just three starts in his career which started in May this year. The 3-yr-old colt chestnut debuted by placing seventh out of 13 then kicked it up a gear by claiming third place in his next race and fourth in his last, which was 23 days ago, so he should be running fresh.

Steel Pier’s top challenges will come from Royal Jacket at 4.50 (2-5-4-2-4-13), who was on fire before a poor last run. There’s not a lot of quality in the rest of the field, with Silver Comet’s 4-4 finishes earning him odds of 7.00.

Race 6 – Meghan's Diamond (4)


Jockey: Chamu Mabaya
Trainer: M/M de Kock
Three finishes in the Top 3 from nine races isn’t headline-making for the 4-yr-old bay filly Meghan's Diamond, but there’s more to her story. She had some up and down form around the turn of the year (6-2-8-3-5) before a change of stable and a 115-day break. She then ran a strong second place in a field of 12 and looks to have found her mojo.

Meghan's Diamond will be pushed by Be All You Can Be (3.50) who has run 2-5-6 coming into the race and Gimmesumluv (6.00) who has been pretty consistent with runs of 4-3-3-5-4-9.

Race 7 – Glastonbury Fire (9)


Jockey:  Chamu Mabaya
Trainer: M/M de Kock
Glastonbury Fire is a 4-yr-old bay gelding who debuted 17 days ago by placing fifth at Turffontein in a field of 10. It was a good run among some fast starters and he just looks to have the fire needed to take first place in his second race.

It’s not a well-medaled field for the feature race of the day, with no wins in the last six runs for any of the horses and in fact with five runners having less than four races under their belt. Roman Twist (4.00) is the next best rated horse but has run just once, finishing in sixth place. 

Withyouwerehere (6.50) is a far more experienced runner but has placed 5-7-5-6-5-4 in his six career starts but should be strong for a Top 3 place in this lucky packet field.
