Zwane back in his old role

Arthur Zwane was handed the reins as Kaizer Chiefs’ head coach ahead of the 2022-23 season after a spell in caretaker charge. Having replaced Stuart Baxter temporarily as the back end of the 2021-22 season, he oversaw three defeats in seven matches.

Faith was placed in him to end Chiefs’ seven-year trophy drought but instead, he could only steer Amakhosi to the Nedbank Cup semi-final. In the league, the Glamour Boys finished fourth with a club-record 12 losses in 30 DSTV Premiership fixtures.

Ntseki takes the hot seat

Molefi Ntseki, who had a disappointing time as head coach of the South Africa national team, has replaced Zwane. He was formerly in a different role at the club, that of Head of Technical and Youth Development.

Ntseki has coached various junior national teams and the senior men’s team but has never held a head coaching role in South Africa’s top flight. He takes the main gig at Chiefs with Arthur Zwane moved back to his old assistant coach position. Dillon Sheppard will also remain on the technical staff, taking on the role of second assistant coach.

Chiefs Renew Deals of Veterans Khune and Hlanti

Amakhosi followed up the announcement of their new coach by releasing news of new contracts for Itumeleng Khune and Sifiso Hlanti. Both players are now deep into their thirties and had been linked with departures from the Naturena-based club.

Chiefs have agreed on a mutual termination of midfielder Cole Alexander’s contract. Centre back Austin Dube is expected to follow suit and accept a pay-off of the final year of his current deal.

Two Attackers Set to Join

News has broken this week that Chiefs are set to bulk up their attack. Right footed winger Pule Mmodi will sign as a free agent after leaving Golden Arrows. The other addition is that of striker Ranga Chivaviro from Marumo Gallants. He netted 17 goals last season in all competitions and will boost a misfiring front-line.

There is still no news on whether Khama Billiat will agree on a new contract or whether target man Caleb-Bonfils Bimenyimana will still be a Chiefs player next term.
