Cheetahs vs Lions Predictions

The Cheetahs are top of the table but have not been at their best the last two weeks. They struggled past the bottom two sides, so I fancy the Lions to come away with the win on Saturday afternoon.

  • Cheetahs have won 3 of their last 4 matches.
  • Lions have won 3 of their last 4 matches.
  • Lions have won their last 2 matches against the Cheetahs.

Head to Head

In 2024 the Lions did the double on the Cheetahs. They won 38-21 in Bloemfontein and when they met in the Currie Cup semi-final, the Lions had to come from behind to win 43-34.

Cheetahs Form

The Cheetahs are currently top of the Currie Cup table after the first four rounds. They have won three and lost one.

The season began with the Cheetahs losing 37-35 away to the newly promoted Boland. That was a very disappointing result for the Free State side.

However, they bounced back to beat the Pumas 42-25 at home in round two before defeating the Sharks 7-5 in Durban. Last weekend, the Cheetahs won again, this time 31-24 at home against Western Province.

Concerning over the last two results will be how poor the Sharks and Western Province have been, yet the Cheetahs only managed narrow wins over both.

Cheetahs Team News

The Cheetahs should make a few changes after resting several players this past weekend.

Lions Form

The Lions are third on the Currie Cup table and like their opponents, have won three and lost one.

Round one saw the Lions start like a house on fire, beating the Sharks 46-5. Another bonus point win followed in round two against Western Province as the Johannesburg side won 40-19 at home.

The Golden Lions opted to rest a few players away to Boland in round three and the paid the price, going down 29-10 in Paarl. Fortunately for the Lions, they bounced back last weekend with a nail-biting win over the Pumas away from home (36-35).

Lions Team News

The Lions will be eager to get a big win away from home here. Expect a full strength lineup.

Verdict

The Golden Lions are set for a win in Bloem. I’m backing them to cover the -3.5 handicap.
