Griquas vs Western Province Predictions

Griquas are always a solid side at home, and they should be too good for the blue and white stripes. I’m backing the hosts to cover the -6.5 handicap.

Head to Head

Griquas beat Western Province 37-29 in the Currie Cup last season.

Griquas Form

Griquas enter round three of the 2025 Currie Cup in sixth place after one defeat and one victory in the opening two rounds.

On the opening weekend, Griquas traveled to Nelspruit to face the Pumas, a side they lost the SA Cup final to not long ago. The Kimberley-based outfit suffered a 49-28 loss in that game and failed to pick up any bonus points.

In their first home fixture last weekend, Griquas managed to do the business against the newly promoted Boland. It was an exciting contest between two sides willing to move the ball around. Griquas won the fixture 48-39.

Griquas Team News

Griquas got their first win last weekend and are unlikely to make too many changes from that side for this clash.

Western Province Form

Western Province have not had a good few years in the Currie Cup and they look set for another struggle in 2025. After two rounds, Province find themselves second from bottom.

WP have lost both games quite comfortably thus far. In round one, the Bulls won 48-23 in Cape Town. Last week, Western Province traveled to Johannesburg where they fell short against the Lions, losing 40-19.

While there were glimpses of quality in both fixtures, Province just don’t have the players to challenge the top sides. This Friday, however, they will fancy a win in Kimberley.

Western Province Team News

Western Province have struggled but they will continue to rotate their young side. Inexperience is one of the issues with this side as their quality is certainly not in doubt.

Verdict

Griquas are tipped to cover the -6.5 handicap.
