The Pumas will be smarting from their home loss last weekend and desperate to return to winning ways. Given Boland’s form, it promises to be a tough match, but in Nelspruit I’m backing the hosts to cover the -11 handicap.

The Pumas come into round five of the 2025 Currie Cup in fifth place after winning two and losing two of their opening four matches.

They made a strong start in round one, beating Griquas at home before losing away to the Cheetahs. A stunning 41-7 victory over the Bulls away from home followed in round three.

Last weekend, the Pumas were involved in a cracking contest at home to the Lions. In a game that could have gone either way, the Lions came out on top with a 36-35 win.

The Pumas will be desperate to get this result after a disappointing outing last weekend. While there are likely to be rotations to their side, the Pumas will stick with a relatively similar squad.

Boland Form

The Boland Cavaliers could not have dreamed of a better return to the Currie Cup. They were promoted last season and after four games sit in second place.

Boland upset the odds in round one, beating the Cheetahs 37-35 at home. They lost away to Griquas in round three 48-39 but at least managed a four-try bonus point.

In round three, Boland were too good at home, beating the Lions 29-10 and last weekend, beat another top side, the Bulls 28-20 at home.

The one slight concern will be that all three wins have been at home and more away matches will now follow.

Boland’s home form has been superb, but they will have to manage away wins if they are to keep up the challenge. I suspect there will be a few changes this weekend.
