Bath Form

Bath produced an excellent second-half display against Saracens in their European Rugby Champions Cup round of 16 clash last weekend, winning 31-22 at home after trailing 10-0 at the break.

Bath had a solid Investec Champions Cup pool-stage campaign. They defeated Munster 40-14 at home, and lost 45-34 to Toulon away before beating Castres 43-20 away and Edinburgh 63-10 at home.

Bath contested three home fixtures in the Premiership Rugby Cup and Premiership before their victory in the previous round of this competition. They defeated Sale Sharks 43-29, Harlequins 40-24, Newcastle 49-21, and lost 31-14 to Exeter before beating Saracens 21-17.

Bath have made their home ground a fortress lately, winning 11 of their last 12 matches, including six in a row, although they did lose to Northampton in their own backyard in a league game earlier this season.

Northampton Saints Form

The Northampton Saints scored plenty of points in the second half against Castres in their Investec Champions Cup encounter last weekend, winning 49-41 after trailing 15-14 at half-time.

Northampton played well during their European Rugby Champions Cup Pool 4 qualifiers. They defeated Pau 35-27 away, the Bulls 50-5 at home, and lost 50-28 to Bordeaux before defeating the Scarlets 43-28 at home.

The Saints have played five away matches in the Premiership and the Premiership Rugby Cup before their win over Castres. They defeated the Leicester Tigers 40-22, Saracens 35-33, and Newcastle 28-27.

The Northampton Saints have been performing well lately, and they have won four of their last five away from home. However, they will need to be on top of their game to win the quarter-final against Bath, as they have lost three of their last four visits to their opponents' stadium.

Team News

Bath

Head coach Johann van Graan was full of respect for the Northampton Saints ahead of the quarter-final clash: “It is the Premiership champions playing against the losing side in last season’s European Champions Cup final.

"Northampton are a team we respect so much and have been involved in some big battles in the last few years.

“And what’s at stake if you get through this is you play either the winners of last year’s Champions Cup in Bordeaux or the French champions Toulouse.

“It is important to acknowledge and enjoy these moments because, certainly at this club, they haven’t happened for a long time.”

Scrum-half Neil Le Roux has left Bath with immediate effect to return to South Africa.

Northampton Saints

Fin Smith did not feature in the round of 16 and is a doubtful starter.

Anthony Belleau slotted six conversions in the match against Castres last weekend.
