Against Taranaki away in the first round, Northland lost 23-3. They were pretty good defensively but just couldn’t get much going on attack. It was followed by a 22-17 home win over Southland.

Round three saw Tasman win 28-14 at Northland, another decent performance by the hosts against a strong side. Last weekend, Northland pulled a blinder, beating Auckland 43-24 away from home.

Northland will want to back up their performance in Auckland last weekend. They don’t often go back-to-back with wins, but at home, they will fancy their chances, particularly if their opponents decide to rest players.

Hawkes Bay Form

Hawkes Bay have won three of their opening four games and sit fifth on the table. It is very congested up there though as the Bay are only one point off second.

A cracking start to their 2025 NPC campaign saw Hawkes Bay win 54-14 at home against Counties Manukau. They followed it up with a 27-21 victory at Otago.

Round three brought more success, this time at home against North Harbour. However, last weekend, against the unbeaten Canterbury, The Bay went down 26-7 at home.

After losing last weekend, Hawkes Bay will be very eager to get back to winning ways. This is a good opportunity, but they won’t be able to rest many players as Northland have the ability to upset the odds.
