This should be a titanic Friday night battle between the two sides that occupy the top two spots on the table. The Saints are slight favourites with a -2.5 handicap and I’m backing them to just cover that.

Head to Head

Last season, these two sides met twice in the Premiership with each winning their home game. The Saints won 28-24 at home in May this year while Saracens were 39-24 victors just before Christmas last year.

Northampton Form

Northampton were very inconsistent in the Premiership last season but showed their true class by reaching the Champions Cup final. This season they are attempting to challenge on both fronts and currently top the Premiership table after four matches.

In round one, the Saints were held to a 33-33 draw by Exeter Chiefs at home. That disappointment was followed by a cracking 37-35 win away against Gloucester. They backed it up with a 32-26 home success against Leicester a week later.

Last weekend, Northampton were far too good for Newcastle away from home. They won the game 36-19, dominating most of it to secure a comfortable victory.

The Saints will want to go into the month-long international break with a win, so they will no doubt field their strongest side.

Saracens Form

Saracens are second on the table, just two points off their opponents. They have won three of their four games and have by far the biggest points difference with +100 – the next best in 57.

Sarries opened their campaign with a 39-17 win away against Newcastle before comfortably seeing off Bristol 50-17 at home. Round three saw their only defeat to date when Harlequins beat then 20-14.

Last weekend, Saracens bounced back from that defeat in stunning fashion, thrashing Sale Sharks 65-14 on home soil. It was a very dominant display by Sarries, as all their victories have been.
