Leinster vs Scarlets Predictions

Leinster at full strength are one of the best club sides in the world and add home ground advantage to that, they often seem unstoppable. I do expect Scarlets to be competitive to start with, but over 80 minutes, Leinster should have too much quality. Yet, I am backing the visitors to get within 26.5 points.

Leinster have historically dominated this fixture, however, on 26 April this year, Scarlets beat them 35-22 at home. However, it must be considered that Leinster rested many top players for that fixture as it was a week before their Champions Cup semi-final.

Leinster Form

Leinster has once again been the dominant force in the URC, but in the recent past, that has not led to the title. After another disappointing exit in the Champions Cup, the hosts will be desperate to claim the URC title.

With 16 victories in 18 games, no one has really challenged Leinster. Both of their defeats came when playing with their top players rested. After losing 27-24 to Northampton in the Champions Cup semi-final, Leinster thrashed Zebre 76-5 at home.

In the final round robin match, Leinster were far more challenged, but still managed a 13-5 victory against defending champions, Glasgow.

With the season nearing its end and the URC the final cup available, Leinster will surely not risk anything. I do expect them to field a full-strength side this Saturday.

Scarlets Form

Not many expected the Scarlets to make the top eight, but the Welsh side has exceeded expectations. They won nine, lost eight and drew one game during the round robin stage of the URC.

The Scarlets made an impressive end to the season, winning four of their last six matches, which included a 35-22 win over Leinster at home. The week before, Scarlets beat the Dragons away from home.

The win over Leinster was followed by an impressive 32-19 success against the Lions in Johannesburg. The season ended in a 12-3 defeat to the Sharks in Durban, still an impressive performance from the Scarlets.
