Sharks vs Scarlets Predictions - Sharks backed for first win of the season

Both the Sharks and Scarlets are struggling in the early stages of the URC season, making their upcoming clash critical for both teams. The Sharks, despite having a strong lineup on paper with many international players, have managed only a single win this season. Their recent performances have placed the coaching staff under pressure. Meanwhile, the Scarlets find themselves at the bottom of the table, winless and without any points. This match is as much about avoiding last-place as it is about turning a new page for both teams.

Sharks vs Scarlets Predictions

These are two sides woefully out of form and in the bottom three of the table. The Sharks have a superb side on paper, but they can’t seem to put it together on the pitch. However, against another poor side in Scarlets, I am backing the Sharks to get the win and cover the -17.5 handicap.

Head to Head

Sharks beat the Scarlets 12-3 in Durban last season.

Sharks Form

The Sharks have been utterly woeful in the opening four rounds despite having a squad that should easily be top two on the table. They have lost three of their opening four games and drawn one.

In round one the Sharks lost 35-19 to Glasgow away before drawing 17-17 against the Dragons in Newport. Their final game of the tour ended in a 31-5 defeat to Leinster.

Upon their return to Durban, big things were expected, especially with 11 starting players all with international caps. However, Ulster were very good, winning the match 34-26 after making a superb start to the game.

Many questions are hanging over the Sharks’ coaching staff with many suggesting John Plumtree’s time may be coming to an end. This is simply a must-win for the Sharks.

Sharks Injuries & Team News

It is once again a Springbok heavy side that the Sharks have opted for in Durban.

Scarlets Form

The Scarlets sit rock bottom of the URC table with no wins in three games. In fact, they have no points at all.

While Scarlets have a game in hand on most teams in the league, they have probably been the only team worse than the Sharks this season. Scarlets lost 34-21 in round one at home to Munster before going down 34-0 at home to the Stormers.

Last weekend, in their first game in South Africa, the Welsh outfit lost 29-18 against the Lions, another team struggling to put good performances together.

Scarlets Injuries & Team News

Scarlets will make a few rotational changes this weekend and will target this game for an away win given the Sharks recent form.
