The Stormers begin their title defence against Connacht on Saturday. They are missing a few players and have not played this season which could hamper them. The hosts will however feel that there is enough quality to see off Connacht.

Last season as the first time the Stormers and Connacht met. Connacht came out of the game with a 19-17 victory on home soil.

The Stormers were very impressive last season, winning the United Rugby Championship. It was their first season in the competition as it was for all the South African sides.

The Cape-based outfit started the season slowly but hit a great run of form from the middle towards the end. They ended up beating the Bulls in the final.

Like with all the South African sides, the Stormers are missing their Springbok players who play their final Rugby Championship fixture this weekend. This could be a tough start but fortunately they are at home.

Joseph Dweba and Salmaan Moerat have returned from international duty early and should feature for John Dobson’s side. Ruhan Nel has been ruled out with through injury.

Connacht Form & News

Connacht are perennial mid-table contenders in the URC. They are capable of big upsets but those mostly take place on home soil.

They beat the Stormers last season on home soil but traveling to South Africa is a different prospect. Last week they suffered a heavy 36-10 defeat to at Ulster.

It may be a good time to face the Stormers who have yet to play this season and are missing some star players to international duty.

Connacht may look to change things up after a poor performance. They have had to travel to the Republic this week so a few changes are expected.
