Japan vs Maori All Blacks Predictions

The Maori All Blacks have a very strong side, mostly from players who recently played in Super Rugby. I am backing them to cover the -16.5 handicap against a Japanese side that is far from full strength.

Head to Head

While these two have played fairly regularly in recent years, the Japan and Maori All Blacks teams are vastly different every season.

Japan Form

Japan’s domestic season ended a few weeks ago so the squad has enjoyed some time together. Still, this isn’t a full Japanese side but rather a team largely made up of fringe players.

Previous results are difficult to pick up on given how vastly different the side is when compared to the actual Japan side that played last year.

Japan Injuries & Team News

Japan are using this opportunity to give some young and fringe players a run as they look to keep building towards the Rugby World Cup in 2027. Siosaia Fifita and Charlie Lawrence will feature in midfield with Sam Greene and Kenta Fukuda playing scrum and flyhalf respectively.

Maori All Blacks Form

The Maori All Blacks often only play a few games every year and are not a recognised international side.

However, the team consists of players who have been playing at the top level of Super Rugby, some of whom have, in the past, earned full international caps.

Kurt Eklund captains the side with players such as Zarn Sullivan, Cole Forbes, Jonah Lowe all featuring in the back division. Some of the players played in the Super Rugby final last weekend, so they won’t be lacking match-fitness.

Maori All Blacks Injuries & Team News

Maori All Blacks have named seven debutants in their team.

Verdict

I am backing the Maori All Blacks to win this by more than 16.5 points.
