Since 1991, these two sides have met 21 times with the USA only ever winning once. That came in their first meeting at the 1991 Rugby World Cup final. England have won the subsequent 20 games, most recently winning 61-21 in 2024.

England Women Form

England women are the favourites to win the 2025 Rugby World Cup on home soil and given their form, it is hard to argue against that. They have won the tournament twice before – in 1994 and 2014.

During the 2021 Women’s Rugby World Cup, England reached the final where they suffered a 34-31 defeat to New Zealand in the final. However, this time around, England are levels above most other teams.

During the Six Nations earlier this year, only France managed to get close to the English, but England stil won 43-42. England won their other games by 33, 55, 44 and 52 points.

England boasts a very experienced squad while there are also a few younger players breaking through. Marlie Packer will star with her 110 caps alongside fellow forwards Hannah Botterman and Alex Matthews. In the backline, Emily Scaratt has 118 caps to her name.

USA Women Form

The USA women are ranked down in 10th place on the world rankings, but it was not always like this. The United States won the very first Women’s World Cup back in 1991 and then went on to reach the final of the next two events in 1994 and 1998.

However, since the early 2000s, other teams have started pouring more funding into the women’s game which has pushed the USA down the pecking order. In May this year, the USA played three games against Canada, Australia and New Zealand, losing all three.

Against Canada, USA lost 26-24 and 27-19 to Australia. New Zealand thrashed them 79-14.

The USA has plenty of talent within their squad, it will be about putting it together on the day. Rachel Johnson, Bulou Mataitoga and Hope Cooper are some names to watch out for.
