Italy are a tough nut to crack at home although over 80 minutes England should prove too good. History suggests that the 15-point handicap shouldn’t be an issue for England.

Italy finished bottom of the 2023 Six Nations, which was not a surprise as that is where they mostly finish. However, their performances were much improved from previous years.

At the World Cup, Italy were not up to scratch though. They comfortably beat Namibia, struggled past Uruguay and then lost heavily to New Zealand and France.

That said, Italy are improving and should once again be competitive this year. They are doing well at the younger age group levels, so the quality is coming through. They can certainly cause England some problems on home soil.

Italy will be at full-strength, but they do have some very talented youngsters coming through. Expect a new name or two.

England Form

England have been poor for a couple of years now. The sacking of Eddie Jones at the end of 2022 surprised many as Steve Borthwick came in to take the side to the World Cup.

During the 2023 Six Nations, England were poor yet again despite the change in coach. In the lead up to the World Cup they even lost at home to Fiji.

However, they gave the supporters some home during the World Cup, losing out in the semi-final to South Africa, a game they arguably should have won.

This year will tell whether it was false hope though. It is hard to argue that England had a pretty easy run to the final with Japan, Argentina, Samoa and Chile in their group.

They struggled in some of those fixtures but ultimately won before defeating Fiji in the quarter-final. The 16-15 loss to South Africa would have hurt but they got up to beat Argentina 26-23 to third place a week later.

Jamie George has been announced as the new England captain. There are six new faces in the England squad that will be looking to make their debut over the coming weeks. Owen Farrell will not feature for England during the Six Nations.
