Blues vs Waratahs Predictions

Both teams are fighting for a place in the top six, although both will rely on favours from other sides. I am backing the Blues to cruise to victory, covering the -19.5 handicap.

Head to Head

Blues have won their last 10 matches against the Waratahs.

Blues Form

The Blues title defence has not quite gone according to plan this season but they are still in with a shout of making the playoffs. Going into this final game of the season, the Auckland side are seventh with five wins from 13 games.

A bonus point win will put the Blues in contention to end fifth if Moana and the Reds lose, the latter without picking up any points. Defeat would, however, see them drop down to eighth place with the Waratahs moving up.

After losing to the Reds at the end of April, the Blues comfortably beat the Western Force and Fijian Drua. However, in their last game on 17 May, the Blues lost 27-21 to Moana.

Blues Injuries & Team News

15 Corey Evans, 14 Mark Tele’a, 13 Rieko Ioane, 12 AJ Lam, 11 Caleb Clarke, 10 Beauden Barrett, 9 Finlay Christie, 8 Hoskins Sotutu, 7 Dalton Papali’i, 6 Anton Segner, 5 Laghlan McWhannell, 4 Patrick Tuipulotu (captain), 3 Marcel Renata, 2 Ricky Riccitelli, 1 Joshua Fusitu’a.

Replacements: 16 Kurt Eklund, 17 Jordan Lay, 18 Angus Ta’avao, 19 Josh Beehre, 20 Adrian Choat, 21 Sam Nock, 22 Harry Plummer, 23 Cole Forbes.

Waratahs Form

The Waratahs are eighth on the table, which would have been enough in previous years, but the playoffs are only for the top six now. They simply have to beat the Blues and hope Moana lose their fixture.

However, things are not looking good for the Tahs who have lost all but one of their games away from home this season. They have also only won once in the last five rounds.

Defeats to Fijian Drua, Brumbies, Reds and Crusaders on successive weekends put a damper on a decent season for the Sydney side. They kept themselves in playoff contention with a 22-17 victory last week against the Force.
