The Hurricanes are obvious favourites for this match, but last season the Force took them to the wire away from home. Generally, the Force are pretty good at home, so I am backing them to get inside 10 points, with an upset result not out of the question.

The Hurricanes have won eight of their nine matches against the Western Force. Last season saw the Force produce a superb display in Wellington as they went down 45-42. In 2022, the Force beat the Canes for the first time ever.

The Western Force finished 10th on the Super Rugby table last season, winning five games whilst losing nine. They ended on 22 points, just two off the final playoff spot.

While the Force have never really been expected to challenge for the title, they will be hopeful of a playoff spot this season. Their away from will have to improve while getting results on home soil against New Zealand opposition will be a massive bonus.

The Force will be reliant on some young players this season along with the bit of experience they have in Nic White. It could be a breakthrough season for a few players given the situation with the national side.

Hurricanes Form

The Hurricanes did not have their best season in 2023 as they struggled to find any sort of consistency. They finished fifth on the table and fourth of the New Zealand sides.

With nine wins and five defeats, they will be looking for a vast improvement this year. Last season they suffered a 37-33 away defeat to the Brumbies in the quarter-final.

The Canes have a strong squad and should be competing near the top again. TJ Perenara will be looking for a big season to seal his place in the All Black side while Jordie Barrett and Tyrel Lomax will provide plenty of quality up front.
